Amazon KDP A+ Content: A Practical Guide for Authors

Published August 5, 2026 · 11 min read

A+ Content gives you more room to explain a book visually on its Amazon detail page. Used well, it can clarify the reader promise, introduce a series, and answer questions the cover and description cannot. Used carelessly, it becomes cluttered sales copy or gets rejected.

The short version: define the decision your reader needs to make, build three to five focused modules, use legible original images, remove prices, reviews, links, and time-sensitive claims, apply the project to the correct ASINs, preview on mobile, and allow up to eight business days for approval and display.

This guide follows Amazon's official A+ Content overview, creation instructions, and content guidelines, reviewed August 5, 2026. Account features and policies can change, so check the live KDP guidance before submitting.

What KDP A+ Content is

A+ Content is a group of visual and text modules added to a published KDP book's Amazon detail page. Amazon says it normally appears under From the Publisher, which means many shoppers must scroll to see it. It supplements the cover, title, description, and sample; it does not replace them.

You create it from the KDP Marketing page, choose a marketplace and language, assemble modules, apply eligible ASINs from your KDP account, preview the layout, and submit it for approval. One project can be applied to multiple formats or related books when the content is accurate for every selected ASIN.

Decide what a reader needs to understand

Start with one decision problem, not with module templates. A fantasy reader may need to understand the world and tone. A nonfiction reader may need to see the book's framework and intended outcome. A series reader may need the order and distinct promise of each volume.

Write a one-sentence brief: After seeing this section, the right reader should understand _____. If a module does not support that sentence, remove it. A concise sequence is easier to scan than a long collage of quotes, slogans, and cover art.

Useful content angles by book type

A simple five-module plan

  1. Opening promise: one strong image and a short line that reinforces the genre or reader outcome.
  2. What is inside: three clear themes, benefits, or reading experiences supported by the manuscript.
  3. Visual proof: a map, framework, character grouping, chapter journey, or other useful original visual.
  4. Reader fit: explain who will get the most value from the book in neutral, specific language.
  5. Series context: when relevant, use an eligible comparison chart to distinguish books in your own KDP catalog.

This is a planning framework, not an Amazon requirement. Available module types and their dimensions appear inside A+ Content Manager. Design to the displayed specifications because Amazon says uploaded images are not resized for you.

Create images that survive a small screen

A module can look spacious on a design canvas and become unreadable on a phone. Keep essential words in Amazon's text fields where possible. If text must be embedded in an image, make it large, brief, and high contrast. Preview the project in both desktop and mobile modes before submission.

Amazon currently accepts JPG and PNG images in RGB color space, with each file under 2 MB and at least 72 dpi. Animated images are not allowed. Images should be sharp, free of watermarks, and distinct from the images already used in the product-page gallery.

Write accurate alt text that explains the image to someone using a screen reader. For example, “Diagram showing the book's four-step revision process” is more useful than a list of search keywords. You must also own or have permission to use every image, logo, and design element.

Write copy that passes review and helps readers

A+ copy works best when it is concrete, calm, and faithful to the book. Describe what readers will encounter rather than declaring the book superior. Match every claim to something the manuscript actually delivers.

Weak approachStronger approach
“The best productivity book available”“A four-part weekly planning system for independent professionals”
“Buy now for life-changing results”“Exercises help readers define priorities, schedule focused work, and review progress”
“Perfect for everyone”“Written for first-time managers leading small, hybrid teams”
“The latest 2026 strategy”“A practical framework for comparing publishing options”
Common rejection triggers: prices or discounts; words such as “free” or “affordable”; commands such as “buy now”; customer reviews; unqualified superlatives; time-sensitive wording; Kindle Unlimited references; web links, QR codes, email addresses, or phone numbers; shipping or guarantee claims; competitor comparisons; and comparison charts containing books outside your KDP account.

Amazon permits a limited number of qualifying publication or public-figure endorsements, but its evidence, attribution, and recency rules are strict. Most authors are better served by useful book information than by forcing quotations into the layout. If you use an award or certification claim, read the current substantiation rules first.

How to create and submit A+ Content

  1. Open the Marketing page in your KDP account.
  2. Find A+ Content, choose the target marketplace, and select Manage A+ Content.
  3. Start a new project and give it a clear internal name.
  4. Select the content language.
  5. Add, reorder, and complete the modules required by your plan.
  6. Upload correctly sized images and write descriptive alt text.
  7. Select Next: Apply ASINs, find the published books or formats, and apply only the correct ASINs.
  8. Preview the whole project on desktop and mobile.
  9. Submit it for approval and monitor the email address associated with the account.

Amazon says compliant content should appear within eight business days. If it is rejected, use the stated reason to correct the project and submit it again. Do not make unrelated changes while troubleshooting; a focused revision makes it easier to identify the violation.

Apply ASINs without confusing readers

Using one project across Kindle, paperback, and hardcover formats can reduce duplicate work when the message is identical. Check every applied ASIN before submitting. A format-specific panel about print illustrations, workbook pages, or included materials may be inaccurate on an eBook edition.

Comparison charts can help series readers, but Amazon restricts them to books in your KDP account. Use accurate titles, covers, and distinctions. Do not position another author or competing book as inferior, and do not turn the chart into a disguised price comparison.

Publish in other marketplaces deliberately

A+ Content is managed by marketplace and language. Amazon may copy a published project's draft into other compatible marketplaces where the book is live, but you still need to review and submit the copied draft where you want it displayed. Readers see content according to the languages supported by that marketplace and their language preference.

Localization is more than translation. Check spelling, cultural references, cover editions, series availability, and claims for each store. A polished U.S. panel can become misleading if the referenced format or companion title is not sold in the destination marketplace.

Use AI as an assistant, not an authority

Some U.S. English accounts may show AI-ready modules that can generate text or images. Amazon's current instructions say the publisher remains responsible for accuracy, rights, and compliance, and warn that generated material may add information that was not in the input.

Whether you use Amazon's feature or another tool, check generated copy against the actual manuscript. Inspect images for invented text, distorted objects, unintended logos, and style inconsistency. Keep source files and rights records. If AI-generated images are also used in the book itself, follow KDP's current AI-content disclosure requirements during publishing or republishing.

Pre-submission checklist

  • Every claim is supported by the published book.
  • The layout adds information instead of repeating the description.
  • Images are original or properly licensed, RGB, sharp, and correctly sized.
  • Alt text describes each image for accessibility.
  • Text remains readable in the mobile preview.
  • No prices, discounts, customer reviews, external links, QR codes, contact details, or purchase commands appear.
  • No time-sensitive claim or competitor comparison appears.
  • Every selected ASIN and marketplace matches the content.
  • Names, series order, terminology, and cover editions are consistent.
  • A second person has proofread the final preview.

Measure usefulness after publication

A+ Content is not a guaranteed ranking or sales lever, and KDP does not promise a particular conversion increase. Judge it as part of the whole detail page. Check whether support questions fall, whether readers understand series order, and whether your description, cover, sample, and A+ modules tell one consistent story.

Revisit the project when the book changes materially, a new series volume launches, or a visual becomes inaccurate. Amazon lets you edit and resubmit content. It also distinguishes between suspending a project, which keeps it available in the manager, and deleting it, which permanently removes the project.

Create a book worth presenting clearly

ShakespeareAI helps you turn an idea into a structured long-form draft with planned chapters and continuity. Revise the manuscript with human judgment, prepare the right publishing files, then build A+ Content that accurately reflects the finished book.
